Lake Park

Remember riding the City Bus out to Lake Park for swimming lessons or just a "Day at the Beach"?

Maybe you remember further back when the City Street Car brought you there!

Would anyone care to guess who the Swimming Instructor out on the dock might be??

This was the only "guarded" beach in Ashland that you didn't have to "walk a mile" to find deep water.

Oredock Fishing

Remember the days when people were allowed to fish off the oredock?

Hopefully in the near future it can be repaired and open to the public. It's a shame to let such an attraction go to waste!

Water Fight

What a wonderful way to "cool off" on a hot July day! Firefighter Water Fights were common occurances years ago. They drew large crowds, as witnessed by a photographer through a window in the

Ashland County Court House.

Remember Grace Sexton and her Popcorn Wagon set up next to the Shores Block where Penneys now stands?

In this photo, Grace added a booth in anticipation of a large crowd for the 4th of July.

Watch for the Popcorn Wagon in front of the

Ashland Historical Museum this 4th of July.

along the breakwall at Sand Bar?

Hopefully the water level will rise again.

Long Bridge

Last week we saw the Long Bridge

that many of us remember.

Here is a glimpse of an earlier Long Bridge!

Long Bridge

A view of Long Bridge at Spring breakup, back in a year when the water level was up.

Do you remember when this brige was dismantled?

Smelt Run

Remember when the smelt ran this thick?

The amounts of available smelt has

thinned out over the years.

Was-Con Lumber

During the 1960's, Was-Con Lumber dismantled the Chicago-Northwestern Oredocks on the East side of Ashland.

As you can see in the photo, lumber was sorted to size for "recycling"

(which was not a common word at that time).
